A SHORT HISTORY OF THE RUNNYMEDE GROUP

The M.G. Owner’s Cub was founded in October 1973 when 44 years ago Roche Bentley decided to set up local Regional Areas. There were a number of such groups existing in the Home Counties South Region when Terry Moorland founded the Staines & District M.G. Group in 1993. However, Terry soon found that his long hours at work in the City did little to make running the group all that easy and in September he stepped down and Tony Hutchings took over, assisted by Alan Burton and with Robin Doran as Treasurer.

October 1993 saw the first edition of the 1007 newsletter “Windtone” produced, in which notice was given of the Club’s first rally - to the Mid-Hants Railway.

On the 25th March 1998 the Runnymede Group enjoyed a Fifth Anniversary lunch at  Fingest in the Chiltern hills, followed by a ramble around Hambledon and the River Thames.

November 2000 marked an important point in the life of 1007 - the first of the annual Christmas Pantomimes was performed - Oh yes it was !

The 14th September 2003 saw our cars on display at Nuffield Place in Oxfordshire as part of our tenth anniversary tea party in the garden.

October 2004 saw Runnymede members on a trip to London enjoying the first of our famous London Walks.

How do you mark a fifteenth anniversary ? By having a picnic by the Thames in Henley while enjoying the Classic Boat Show.

In September 2008 Russ Armitage took over as Secretary when Tony retired, having managed the group for 15 years. Les Moir took over from Russ in August 2011. Gerry Hill has now taken over as our new Secretary  from Les in October 2013
